This shot was taken in Kanab, UT. I happened to be at a great place at the time of the storm. The shot consists of probably two or three strikes. In order to capture lightning you must have a camera that allows for the shutter speed to be changed. For this shot the shutter was open for 30 seconds in shutter priortiy mode (camera decides the aperture setting automatically) to allow for the camera to capture at least one strike. Its a lot of luck and patience. Oh and don't forget the tripod! Impossible without it.

your wife is so lucky to have you...
I want a camera like you have! That is so totally awesome! I told everyone how you shaved off my nose and took out the bags under my eyes etc! They all got quite a kick out of that! Thanks Dr. Jon!
Very cool!!! I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again! I really appreciate the step-by-step explanations; they're really useful - especially with all the options cameras come with nowadays! :-)
And yes, that's a GORGEOUS, very "striking" picture! :-)
Wow! That is awesome! Beautiful! Good job!
That's is pretty cool Jon! Hey so I hear that you've turned into a feast by the bugs out there too! I have to "OFF" my exposed skin to even walk the dogs! I had an extra knee cap last week thanks to a hungry bug. It sucks!
you are so talented!
